Context

Cross-border transfers within Africa are among the most expensive in the world — fees and multi-day settlement eat into every remittance. UbuntuLink set out to route those transfers over stablecoin rails, settling value in minutes instead of days, while shielding senders and merchants from the underlying crypto complexity.

What I did

  • Led the technical design of the settlement engine — an idempotent transfer state machine that moves value over stablecoin rails and settles it against off-chain fiat payouts.
  • Designed the reconciliation flows that match on-chain settlement to merchant ledgers, so every transfer can be traced end to end.
  • Built the merchant-facing dashboard for tracking transfers, balances and liquidity in real time.
  • Kept the crypto layer invisible to end users — senders and merchants transact in familiar fiat terms.
  • Set the architecture and coordinated the team from initial spec through pilot launch.

Outcome

Took the platform from zero to a working pilot: a settlement engine and merchant dashboard moving real value across a live corridor, with reconciliation that kept every transfer auditable.
